Characteristics of tea soils in Yen Bai province
The study has performed on 15,000 hectare of tea soils in Yen Bai province. The research results indicated that: The soil of study region is suitable for tea plantation. Whole tea plantation areas is distributed from altitude of 100 meters to over 1,000 meters and slope from 8O to 25O. The tea soils is classified into three main soil groups by FAO-UNESCO - WRB classification, which are Ferralsols, Nitisols and Acrisols. Most tea soils is characterized medium to heavy-texture; strong acidity (pHH2O from 3.8 to 5.5); humidity; high organic carbon (OC) and total nitrogen (N%) content; cation exchange capacity (CEC) ocupied over 16 meq/100g of clay; but low base saturation (BS) and exchanged cations (Ca2+, Mg2+,...); content of potasium and phosporous are low to very low and downtrend to depth of soil layer, molipden is not enough for tea requiment. However, limitation of those factors can be improved by technique method (cultivation).
