Determining distance of suitable alternating cultivation in hybrid mulberry field F1-VH17
To take advantage of space distance between mulberry rows in the field, the period when mulberry tree growth was slow or stopped as in the Spring and Autumn-Winter crops, alternating cultivation in the mulberry fields is really significant because it not only limites the growth of weeds but also increases income for famers. To increase the efficiency of land use without affecting yield of mulberry leaves, the mulberry field per year can intercrop with groundnuts in Spring-Summer and cabbages in the Autumn-Winter crops. Intercropping distances between mulberry trees and groundnuts was 35 cm × 20 cm and 26,600,000 dong/ha for income, planting distance with cabbages was 60 cm × 50 cm and increased 36,350,000 dong/ha for income. Increased income from alternating crop reached 62,950,000 dong/ha/year. The alternating cultivation in the mulberry field can be confirmed as an effective combination to improve incomes for famers and to stabilize and develop sustainable sericulture industry.
