Research and development of mung bean variety DX208 in Nam Dan district, Nghe An province
Mung bean is an important food crop in Nam Dan district, Nghe An province. It is grown in almost all communes in Nam Dan district with the scale of 1200 ha/year. Local varieties and traditional farming techniques are commonly applied which have low yield and this is the biggest limiting factors for mung bean production in Nam Dan district. Therefore, the research on field trials and building up models for new mung bean variety and farming techniques are the key solution to increase yield and economic efficiency of mung bean production in this district. That was a reason to conduct trials for promising varieties, including one local variety, VN93-1, terms of growth, tolerance and yield. So, DX208 was selected for building up a demonstration of mung bean in Nam Thuong, Nam Tan, Nam Loc communes. In these models, average values of mung bean DX208 for productivity, total income, net interest and margin rates were significantly higher comparing to that of the control, corresponding to 1,93 ton/ha, 57,9 millions VND/ha, 31,0 millions VND/ha, respectively. Thus, mungbean variety models DX208 succeeded in 3 communes: Nam Thuong, Nam Tan and Nam Loc, where was considered to be as an representative of Nam Dan, Nghe An province.
