In Viet Nam, the snake gourd is cultivated extensively in home gardens or intercropped with upland rice in mountanous areas, that is reason why it has other names such as mountain gourd, rice gourd, heaven gourd. Two promising snake gourd varieties having the accesion numbers SDK 9787 and SDK 12878, which originate from Son La and Lai Chau provinces respectively, were selected from the snake gourd collection maintained in the National Crop Genebank at An Khanh commune, Hoai Duc district. The trial research results showed that they can adapt and raise high yield in intensive cultivation condition in Red River Delta, and also are prefered by consummers as an organic vegetable. The research study on growing method toward intensive condition for those two snake gourd showed that, with the optimum plant density from 3000 - 3500 plants per hecta and the optimum fertilization of 10 ton muck, 75 kg P2O5, 60 kg K2O, 400 kg lime and 120 - 150 kg N per hecta, the fruit yield is over 40 tons per ha in both Spring - Summer and Summer - Autumn Seasons
