Study on the effect of media to the growth and flower quality of potted dwarft marigold (Tagete patula L.)
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different growing media on the rate of germination, seedling quality, the growth and flower quality of potted dwarft marigold (Tagetes patula L.). Three different medias including top soil, dry water hyacinth’s root and rice husk charcoal were used for sowing seed. The results showed that the media CT2 (1 top soil: 1 dry water hyacinth’s root: 1 rice husk charcoal) had the best effect to the rate of germination and seeling quailty of marigold. The germintaion rate was 78,3%, and the seedling had 5,9 cm in height and 5,6 leaves on the main stem. For potted media study, five different growth medias mixed from top soil, waste composted, rice husk charcoaland coconut fiber were used. The media CT1 (3 top soil: 1 waste composted: 1 rice husk charcoal), which had total porosity 58%, pH: 7,0, EC: 2,1mS/cm, had the best effect to the growth and flower quality of potted dwraft marigold. The plant height was 21,9 cm, the canopy diameter was 19,9 cm and each plant had average 3,3 flowers. The flower lasted after 14,7days, therefore the bedding display time was the longest as 35,7 days.
