Results of selection and development of Japonica rice varieties for Northern moutainous region in Vietnam
Results of testing 13 Japonica rice varieties in 4 provinces in Northern mountainous region (Yen Bai, Son La, Thai Nguyen and Ha Giang) showed that all varieties had good adaption to conditions in the spring and summer season 2011 in the mountainous region, and less infection to main pests on rice than BT7 variety and Nhi uu 838 variety. There were 5 varieties had higher yield and yield components than BT7 variety (the control ): 8.7%- 26.6% higher in spring season and 2.7% - 11.6% higher in summer season, these varieties were QJ3, ĐS1, ĐS3, J02, J01. However, the practical yields of these varieties was lower than Nhi uu 838 variety (the control ) and different from each other due to different conditions of 4 provinces. The area of demonstration planting ĐS1 variety and J01 variety was 135 ha. Average yield of J01 was 61.6 quintals/ha in spring season and 56 quintals/ha in summer season, while that of ĐS1 was 64.1 quintals/ha in spring season and 57 quintals/ha in summer season. These two varieties were extended the area of pilot production at 2521,4 ha in Northern mountainous region and the average yield of of J01 was 59,7 quintals/ha and of ĐS1 was 60.4 quintals/ha.
