Research result of screening resistant against bacterial wilt and selection of promising sesame varieties for major sesame growing areas
From 2004 to 2011, Plant Protection Research Institute tested the resistance of 38 sesame varieties (18 varieties from Korea, 20 varieties from National Plant Genetic Resources Conservation of Vietnam) in sick plot to bacterial wilt (BW) caused by Ralstonia solanacearum Smith. The result showed that the varieties V10 from Korea having high resistance to BW and good agronomic traits. We also carried out the field trial of some promising sesame varieties at different regions of the North Coastal Central of Vietnam in summer - autumn crops. The varieties V10 with the growth duration of 75-80 days, the plant height of 85-90cm, number of fruits 15- 25, the weight of 1000 grains was 3,74g and the yield was 900 kg/ha. This variety was selected as the high yield and resistant to BW.
