Results on selection and cultivation technique of sweet potato in Binh Dinh
The sweet potato area and yield of Binh Dinh have decreased for recent years. 1,200 ha of sweet potato with the yield of 4.75 tons/ha in 2000 reduced 700 ha in 2005, so the yield is only 4.60 tons/ha in 2009 (400ha). The reason is that research agencies have no interest in the area, therefore, farmers do not have access to breeding advances and new farming techniques leading to low productivity and efficiency, taking competitive advantage of other crops. According to forecast by some scientists, the consequences of climate change can cause many disadvantages to grain crops, so sweet potatoes will have a position in the system of cropping pattern. The Agriculture science Institute for southern coastal central of Vietnam selected the crop for the period of 2009-2010. The inital results have identified two varieties of new sweet potato such as: KMT7 and KMT4 with the yield of 24,5 - 28,04 tons/ha and appropriate levels of fertilizer: 10 tons of manure + 105N + 52,5 P2O5 + 157,5 K2O cultivated on the infertile sandy soil of Phu Cat - Binh Dinh
