Results of research on mass bio-product for controlling coffee scale insect

Abstract

Since 2009 up to date, we collected and isolated mycopathogens from coffee scale insect with total 23 strains including 7 strains were Metarhizium anisopliae, 12 strains were Beauveria bassiana; 1 strain was Cephalosporium lanoso-niveum; 1 strain was Cordyceps nutans; 1 strain was Toxicocladosporium sp.; and 1 strain was Paecilomyces cicadae. The results showed that diameter destroy on chitine-T, chitine-C, lipide, glucose ans cellulose of 6 highest strains were MR4, MR7, MR8, BR5, BR11, and BR13 that were 6 strains promise for mass product to utilize control scale insect on coffee. In condition 350C all strains did not grow, in 300C some strains grow well such as BR2, BR4, BR7, BR10, BR11, BR13, BR15, and BR16. The best solid medium for mass product was rice. Mortality of scale insect in laboratory highest in September with product of strain BR5 was 77.78%, and strain MR4 was 74.45%. In the field, mortality of scale insect with product BR5 was 72.09%, and MR4 was 70.35%.
