The results of selecting maize inbredlines and maize hybrid development for the North Western region of Vietnam
The North Western agro-ecological zone including 4 provinces Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La and Hoa Binh is the large maize cultivated area and highly potential maize production of Vietnam. Breeding for high yield and quality maize hybrids which are suitable with climate and cultivating behavior of the ethnic people of this region bring the significant meaning of enhancing maize yield and production of the whole country in the near future (2013-2020). By 15 inbred lines from S5 and over including D1 to D15 and 2 potential inbred lines DF2 and IL9 which were tested in the the North Western condition 8 inbred lines were selected: D4, D8, D10, D11, D12, D13, D15 and D15. Futher more, the maize hybrid LVN81 and some potential hybrid combinations including (D10 D12), (D12 D13) and (D14 D15) were developed and brought to VCU test.
