Sesame variety VĐ11 which originates from Japanese black sesame has been studied, characterized and evaluated by the Plant Resources Center in years of 2008, 2009 and 2010. The research result have shown that VĐ11 has high potential of use for introduction to production. It has typical characteristics such as pale white flower, no branch, brown ripen fruit and black seed coat. Particularly, it has good lodging tollerance, pod borer resistance and slightly infected leaf spot disease. Sesame cultivar VĐ11 plants can grow to a height of about 63cm. It has approximately 16 capsules per plant, 4 seed rows per capsule and 19 seeds for each row on average. The its 1000 seed weight is about 2,1g; the potential yield is 1566 kg per hectare and the actual revenue yield id 1338 kg/ha. VĐ11 can adapt to farming conditions in Summer and Spring season in Nghe An and other regions with similar conditions in Vietnam.
