The evaluation on the reaction of rice varieties being produced in northern Vietnam with WBPH Sogatella furcifera Horvath (Homoptera: Delphacidea)
In 2009, RBSDV-2 (Rice Black Streaked Dwarf Virus-2) disease was outbreak on rice in almost provinces in northern Vietnam and WBPH is the vector to transmit this disease. With the changes of the ecological agricultural system (including variety use, cropping pattern and intensive farmingfertilizer and pesticide utilization), up to now the position and the role of WBPH has dominated compared to BPH in northern Vietnam. In order to manage WBPH and RBSDV-2 diseases effectively, it is necessary that of the evaluation all the varieties that are producing at present to select the suitable varieties and promising resistant lines for production and breeding in forthcoming years. The results showed that of 129 varieties evaluated from IRRI origination 71 varieties reacted (55%) ranging from resistance to high resistance; 58 varieties from China (45%) reacted ranging from susceptible to high susceptible.
