Title

Research on application of integrated crop management (ICM) in some citrus crops in the northern provinces

Author
Abstract

IPM (Integrated Pest Management) measures applied on many crops have reduced the use of inorganic fertilizers and plant protection chemicals in order to produce less toxic agricultural products, helping to limit environmental pollution. However, the production of clean products which are safe for consumers, and improving the efficiency of citrus production, promoting sustainable agriculture really needs the measures of integrated crop management (ICM) which can actually improve fruit production efficiency in the long run.To verify this, we have conducted the project titled "Study of ICM measures (integrated crop management) on some citrus in the northern provinces." In three years of implementation from 2009 through 2011, the project has achieved the following results: - A number of additional technical measures have been applied to improve the integrated crop management (ICM) such as the use of potassium fertilizers both to leaf and root of the plant not only to increase the growth of the Xa Doai orange trees, but also improve its fruit quality, thus increase the economic efficiency for the orchard; and the IPM measures applied on the Xa Doai orange trees have not only restricted the composition of pest species on them but also enriched and balanced the number of natural enemies in the orchard. Furthermore, IPM measures have reduced the cost of pesticides used in gardening, provided health protection to consumers, to the environment and the ecology. - Modeling a 0.5 ha orchard of Xa Doai orange using ICM methods that resulted in healthy growth of plants, enriching the natural enemy parasitic components both in quality and quantity; reducing the harm by pests, increasing productivity by 9.5%, economic efficency by 21% and, fruit quality increased significantly compared to samples of normal care.
