Testing introduced orange varieties in some northern provinces of vietnam
Orange (Citrus sinensis Osbeck) is one of the important fruit in many countries over the world. In Vietnam, it is also considered as one of the key fruit crops. However, most of varieties in our country are local ones, with unstable, low yield and quality, in which, the seedy fruits. The aim of this study is to selecting varieties with seedless, high yield for production in the North of Vietnam. The varietal screening was carried out in four main concentrated orange-growing provinces in the North Vietnam, including Huong Son-Ha Tinh, Tho Xuan-Thanh Hoa, Lac Thuy, Cao Phong -Hoa Binh and Van Chan-Yen Bai provinces from 2012 to 2014. Results showed that yield of 3 years old trees (variety clone codes Marrs No.10) reached 12.99 to 14.99 tons/ha; Clone Marrs No.9 reached 14.66 to 16.66 tons/ha; Clone Hamlin No.146 ( 9.66 to 11.33 tons/ha), Clone Hamlin No.8 (8.33 to 8.99 tons /ha). The seed number of all clones and varieties was less than 5 seeds/fruits (varied from 2.4 to 4.8 seeds/fruits). The selected clones were considered as promising vatieties to be introduced into production areas in the North of Vietnam in the coming years.
