Results of evaluation of mungbean germplasm collection in national crop genebank
Mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek.) is a traditional legume food crop which is consumed in different ways in Vietnam. Mungbean is rich and balance in protein, short duration, drought tolerant, and adaption to environment. In the changes of the current climate, mungbean is one of the potential crop which is chosen for research and development in the response to global climate change. With objectives of selection and introduction of potential mungbean varieties for production, which have high yield, good growth, high tolerance to pest and disease, we characterized and evaluated agro-bio-morphological characteristics of 103 accessions in mungbean germplasm collection maintained in national crop genebank based on methods of plant genetic resources characterization and evaluation, and traditional plant-breeding. The experiment was implemented in the summer of 2011. The research results showed that most of varieties grew and developed well in climate condition of Red River Delta. And we have selected 2 varieties (Accession No. 4299 và 8496) having higher yield than control, KPS1.
