Agrobiological characteristics of promising Amorphophallus germplasms in Dak Nong province, central Highlands
Amorphophullus is an economic crop used widely for food and in pharmaceutical chemistry industries in many countries. There are about 200 Amorphophullus species in the world. A. krausei and A. yuloensis are two of the four species which have high glucomannan content and are cultivated in countries with appropriate conditions. Two species A.krausei and A. yuloensis collected from Hoa Binh and Son La provinces were evaluated agrobiological characteristics in the Central Highlands. The results showed that there were complete difference of some traits such as petiole colour, spadix shape, spadix colour between two species. A. krausei species collected from Hoa Binh province had the yield of 33.7 ton/ha and glucomannan content in tuber reached 56.8-58.0%, these parameters were higher than that in A. yuloensis species collected from Son La province with the yield of 22.5 ton/ha and glucomannan content from 43.2 to 43.5% when planted in Dak Nong, Central Highlands.
