Influence of using sugarcane by-product on sugarcane yield, quality and soil fertility in Bim Son, Thanh Hoa
A plot experiment of using sugarcane by-product as a nutrient source for sugarcane cultivation was done on a yellowish red soil (Haplic Acrisols) in Ha Trung district, Thanh Hoa province from 2006 to 2008. The results showed that once buried all leaves of sugarcan cultivated on a hectare, it would return to the soil an amount of nutrients accounting as 66-98 kg nitrogen, 11-14 kg phosphorus and 63 - 89 kg potassium. In treatment using sugar leaves buried with addition of TH microbial preparation, yields of cane and sugar were higher than those in treatments not using that by-product by 18-22% for cane and 22-26% for sugar. In case the sugarcane by-product was consecutively used for three years, the increase in value was observed for some important soil parameters such as organic carbon content, available phosphorus and potassium contents, CEC, soil porosity, and water stable aggregate of soil (size > 1 mm). Application of by-product for sugarcane cultivation on yellowish red soil in Ha Trung district, Thanh Hoa province could gain a net income of 21,595,000 VND/ha.
