Abstract

Ginger is a traditional crop in Vietnam, as in many Asian countries and in the world for the purpose mainly as spices, food and pharmaceutical resources. However ginger production in the Northern provinces reflects a traditional farming methods associated with the use of local ginger varieties limiting on possibility of growth and development, tolerance and adaptation to climate change. Therefore research on physiological, tolerance characteristics for some promising ginger varieties is very important for developing ginger production in Nothern Vietnam. These 10 promising ginger varieties were studied in Bac Kan and Hoa Binh provinces. The promising varieties were studied on high plant growth, leaf area (DTL), leaf area index (LAI), dry, aphids and high temperature resistant and the elements tuber yield. Results showed that LAI of promising varieties reached maximum value in growing phase after 200 days, QT1 is considered the most significant advantages of the tuber length, diameter at both Hoa Binh, Bac Kan. Among, selected 3 varieties having ability resistant to heat, drought, aphids and root rot: QT1, HY4, VP2, the QT1 has the highest potential yield at 2 Bac Kan and Hoa Binh, corresponding to 33.9 and 31.3 tons/ha.
